Dame Autumn - $100
This choker takes both its name and its inspiration from John Atkinson Grimshaw's beautiful painting, Autumn -- Dame Autumn Hath a Mournful Face. I was captivated by the picture and simply had to make a necklace in commemoration of it. I started with a base of woven Japanese seed beads, in glowing ivories like the ethereal flesh of the fae figure in the painting, and variegated oranges like the forest behind her. Four strands of these same seed beads hang from the base, accented with a wide variety of beads in Autumnal hues. The accents include a golden faerie, Czech glass, Swarovski crystals, vintage leaf beads, citrine, and freshwater pearls.
I call this style of necklace a "strand collage" as each strand coordinates with the other to make a cohesive whole. The woven base is meant to be worn choker-tight against the neck, and the lower strands may be worn neatly cascading, or artfully tangled. It looks far more stunning on than in the picture!
Dame Autumn is adjustable from 14" to 16"; accent strands measure 16"-21". This necklace fastens securely with a button-and-loop clasp, featuring a golden rectangular button with scrollwork patterns and Czech beads accenting the loops.
